I repeated the procedure again and again, each time it would work for a bit and then the issue would return. If you would rather not try this fix, you can try the charger fix and in the rare case when that does not help, simply turn on the Assistive Touch button Home Button Not Working On Iphone 6 I did it 3x and the button now responds to the clicks. Thanks.
