I might try cleaning the touchscreen connector with rubbing alcohol. Not sure about ipods but the digitizers on iphone generations are listed as not compatible on parts websites! Apparentl I didn't snap the touch screen wire in well enough and it poped out.

You would have to start with a new logic board and go from there without having any guarantee that whatever you are doing will fix the problem.
