I stumbled across this post just today and after adjusting the screw found in step 2 above my trackpad works again!! I confirmed this by bending the frame back (very carefully!!), and one side of the TouchPad started working again. The way to test this is to see if you have a physical mouse connected to your system, either via USB or via Bluetooth. Still don't know what caused the issue. You need a special tri-wing screwdriver. Peace!
