Macbook Pro Cd Reader Not Working


It never shows up on my desktop, so the computer is unable to read anything from the CD or DVD. The problem is with dual layer discs. This original one lasted 2 years, is that good or bad? THANK YOU!

Usually they're data discs as my old man insists on sending me movies as AVI files. clean it with a Disk Cleaner (Writex CD-DVD Lens Cleaner which was lying around for years). The Repair Disk Permissions process is performed. Eject the disc from the optical drive and restart the MacBook. I've tried resetting PRam. Same issue as everyone else.
