You can also try plugging in headphones (or another 3.5mm jack) and pulling them out again. I opened up Skype and called "echo123" to see if Skype was picking up and sound. It seems that this is a software problem, since it's always fixed by restarting, but of course I'd like to find some way to fix this without having to restart. Source
