My mouse and keyboard light up and work in the bios screen but once i get to the windows install screen that asks me to pick a time zone my mouse But the mouse and keyboard do work on HP System Recovery. Yikes Z97 chipset, in my conservative world that still counts as bleeding edge :-p I am now 100% certain that your issue is related to a BIOS setting. Install Windows Without Keyboard Lab colleague uses cracked software. Instead of booting with the Win7 DVD, use a Win8.x DVD and see if the keyboard/mouse works.

When Win 7 boots from the installation disk it gets as far as the language screen, and can't go further. I did connect them through USB 2.0.
